The Arrow Fund is asking for help today as they try to save the life of a badly malnourished dog named Orville.
Arrow Fund was called by the Louisville Metro Animal Services, where Orville was initially taken. Poor little Orville was unable to stand or walk, and he was dehydrated as well as starved, so The Arrow Fund immediately stepped in to help. They arranged for him to be taken to Bannon Woods Veterinary Hospital, where he was given an immediate blood transfusion for his anemia. Orville’s temperature was 97 and dropping on arrival, meaning without this quick intervention, he probably wouldn’t have survived.
Orville is thought to be around nine years old. This poor little boxer mix weighs a tiny thirty pounds!
As well as malnourished and weak as a result, Orville is hypothermic, covered in fleas, and nearly bald.
He is unable to walk, has a hairline fracture in his pelvis, and is generally in an appalling state of neglect.
Orville’s case is now under investigation because somebody is responsible for leaving him to turn to skin and bone.
Look at his claws; Orville hasn’t been cared for in months!
Orville is now on antibiotics and pain medication and is managing to maintain his body temperature. He is safe, warm, and has brightened up enough to kiss his nurse in thanks!
Orville has just taken his first unaided steps, and as he gets stronger, he will undergo physical therapy. Get well soon, Orville. We promise there is love and kindness in your future!
No pet should be left to get this sick, to be left to starve until we can see every one of their ribs. We wouldn’t do it to our family members, so why on Earth do people do this to their dogs? It is sickening to think of how long Orville must have been suffering, and his story only highlights the need we have to become a nation of dog adopters. Dogs like Orville need a good home and a second chance in life.
The Arrow Fund provides veterinary treatment for animals who are victims of torture, cruelty or neglect. They work to educate the public about animal cruelty and the need to strengthen animal welfare laws, so cases like Orville’s become a thing of the past. They need our support to keep going; please visit their Facebook page to find out more.
