Just when we thought people were finally starting to catch on to the idea the exploiting animals for a selfie was not cool … we came across this heartbreaking story of Jeta the bear. Jeta is a 15-year-old bear who spent years being pulled around the streets of Albania with a chain attached to a ring through her nose. Her owner led her around streets, beaches, towns, and tourist spots so that people could take a quick selfie with her – all for a measly payment in return. Sadly, Jeta isn’t the only bear who has experienced this abuse. Approximately 50 bears are kept in cruel conditions across Albania for the sake of entertaining humans.

Thankfully, FOUR PAWS International teamed up with the Albanian Ministry of the Environment and the authorities and together they were able to rescue Jeta from the miserable conditions she was faced with every day. This sweet bear has now been chipped, vaccinated, and treated medically. She will be moved to a temporary location and then she will be moved to the Bear Sanctuary Prishtina in Kosovo where she will spend her days with other rescued bears.

Jeta and her fellow rescued bear friends will now live her life exactly how she should: free of exploitation. Please share the above video with your friends and family and urge them to never support such cruel attractions. To help FOUR PAWS International with Jeta’s rescue, you can donate here.
