The holiday season is right around the corner and there’s probably someone in your life who would love nothing more than to buy a cute puppy. We think that’s great! Pet guardianship can bring a lot of love and joy into someone’s life. However, people who “buy” puppies unknowingly support a multi-million dollar animal cruelty nightmare. The story of Franny from Animals Australia proves this point perfectly.

Franny spent her entire life trapped inside the cramped cages of the Pyramid Hill puppy mill. Puppy mills are large-scale breeding facilities that hold thousands of dogs captive at one time. These dogs are considered commodities and as such, never given the proper food, care or get to know life outside of their small cages. Most people don’t realize that when they go to a pet store to buy a dog, there is a high likelihood that that dog came from one of these horrific facilities, but sadly, this is the case.

Franny experienced terrible pain and fear while living in Pyramid Hill, but thankfully a group of animal investigators helped to shut this cruel facility down in 2013.

Two years later, Franny is learning what it means to be a dog in the care of her new forever family! Seeing her go from a scared, fearful pup into a confident happy dog is sure to warm your heart.

Unfortunately, millions of dogs in Franny’s situation aren’t as lucky to get rescued. While you might not be able to single-handedly rescue all dogs from puppy mills, you can help by always remembering to adopt and not shop when looking for a new pet. By cutting off the profits from puppy mills, we can put an end to this industry once and for all!
