And you thought ridiculous news related to Paris Hilton was a thing of the past…well people, she’s back at it again. Reportedly, Hilton just purchased a miniature Pomeranian worth an estimated $13,000.

This smaller-than-life pooch was purchased from Betty’s Teacup Yorkies, a Canadian-based breeder. The dog, named Mr. Amazing by the breeder, is only expected to weigh two pounds when he is fully grown and is considered to be the world’s smallest Pomeranian.

Mr. Amazing is five months old and is a whopping two inches long and one inch high.

While there is no denying the fact that this little guy is adorable, there is a lot about this news that has us Green Monsters worried. It might seem that an act of magic brought this itty-bitty puppy into reality, but the truth is it was probably more along the lines of a selective breeding process. For lack of a better way to put it, this little dog was created for it’s novelty value – hence the extremely high price tag.

Breeding dogs (or any other animal) in this manner is very irresponsible, especially considering there are millions of healthy, adoptable dogs waiting in shelters. Not to mention purchasing animals fuels the puppy mill industry.

Paris Hilton is known for treating her dogs like accessories (remember Tinkerbell from The Sweet Life days?), and although she claims to love her new little pom-pom, she seems rather unaware of the danger of the message she is sending to her followers.

In the United States alone, 2.7 million adoptable cats and dogs are euthanized every year in shelters. By encouraging and promoting the trend of buying “high-end” dogs from breeders, Hilton is unknowingly fueling this statistic. For every dog that is bought to be an “accessory,” there are literally millions of others suffering in puppy mills, or wasting away in animal shelters.

There are certainly many things that Paris Hilton has done that we wouldn’t encourage anyone to repeat – and this is no exception.

So remember, don’t be like Paris Hilton, be an animal lover that makes the connection and adopt, don’t shop!
