Imagine being in chains from the moment you are born. You haven’t committed a crime, you have no idea why people are keeping you hostage, and no one tells you if and when you will ever be released. No this is not the plot of a deranged thriller movie, this is sadly a reality for many elephants around the world who are unfortunate enough to be born into captivity.
Simsar Kali, the elephant in the video above, is seven-years-old and has been in chains since she was a baby. Thankfully, there are organizations around the world that make it their mission to help captive elephants just like Simsar. It’s not always easy and it often takes a lot of negotiating and persistence, but every once in a while these organizations are able to free these innocent creatures and give them the life they deserve.
In fact, thanks to Elephant Aid International, Simsar was freed from her chains in 2015! This video shows the sweet elephant getting used to running around her new environment and it never fails to make us smile! This is truly how all animals should live, without any fear of being abused or exploited for human gains.
Huge thanks EAI
I am glad she is out of chains but she needs to get beyond that fence as well.
she gets beyond the fence several hours of each day when she goes into Chitwan National Park. This chain free corral is where she stays over night. Nice, don’t you think?
