In 2010, Greg Steltenpohl, one of the founders of Odwalla, co-founded Califia Farms. The company has since sky-rocketed and is now one of the fastest growing beverage brands in the United States, specializing in almond milk, premium juices, cold brew coffee drinks, and vegan creamers. And now, it looks like Greg’s achievements haven’t gone unnoticed. Finance company, Goldman Sachs recently recognized him as one of the 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs of 2017, at their Builders + Innovators Summit in Santa Barbara, California. Whoa!

Goldman Sachs honored Greg at the two-day event, after selecting him as one of 100 entrepreneurs from multiple industries. Goldman Sachs also created a video of the company’s California-based production facility, as well as their local almond supplier. “We are pleased to recognize Greg Steltenpohl as one of the most intriguing entrepreneurs of 2017,” said David M. Solomon, President and Co-Chief Operating Officer at Goldman Sachs.

Given that Califia Farms is now the number one natural cold brew coffee brand and is the fastest-growing non-dairy creamer brand, we aren’t surprised Greg was honored for his efforts. And it doesn’t seem like Califia Farms is going to slow down anytime soon. The company recently secured a $15 million lease with equipment finance company CapX Partners to further expand their production capacity. The million-dollar lease will triple Califia Farms output, to keep up with the ever-increasing demand for plant-based milk.

Increasingly more people are starting to wake up to the fact that the dairy industry has been embellishing the nutritional benefits of their products, and they’re also learning about the environmental impact of milk, as well as animal welfare concerns and consequently choosing better alternatives. The plant-based and dairy-free alternative sectors have been seeing a ripple-effect over the last few years that doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. In fact, plant-based milk is set to reach $16.3 billion in 2018.

In their conversation, they dive deep into Greg’s thoughts on why we need to shift to a primarily plant-based food system, the great opportunities companies have to do so – and what it means to compete in this changing marketplace.
