Wowie wow! Can you believe that 2015 is practically over?! It seems like  I was just waking up in a pile of doggie toys and empty bags of treats from last year’s New Year’s Eve party and now it’s time for another!

Now, if you know me at all then you know that I never let a good year go by without paying tribute to the most important of all important things: food! And my doggie senses have been picking up on what my plant-powered humans have been jabbering about all year…  it has been a big one for food. In fact, it seems like there were enough wins in the vegan food world this year to fill at least 10 dog years!

So pop open a fresh can o’ pumpkin purée (a jar of peanut butter will do as well…  I personally prefer pumpkin or sweet potato, but I digress) and let’s toast to the biggest vegan food wins of 2015!

1. Ben & Jerry’s Ditched Dairy… And So Did Everyone Else

When Ben & Jerry’s finally unveiled that they were making a vegan ice cream (after lots of super eloquent persuasion, ammmiiirght), we were like…

Don’t mind us, just swalking our way to glory!

But really, I was kinda thinking more along the lines of welcome to the partay ice cream dudes, dairy-free is the way to be. Just ask the cool kids Starbucks, Dunkin’, Walmart’s ice cream section, Pinkberry, the beautiful world of artisanal nut cheeses, and basically anyone else killing it in the massively succesful dairy-free dessert market. I’ve never run down a giant tunnel of people high-fiving but that’s what I imagine this dairy-free crew is like.  Oh, and no one is really drinking milk anymore, anyway!

2. Fast Food Got Meat Beat

Fast food companies are always talking about how they do stuff to make their customers happy – “Have it Your Way” philosophy and all …

Well, in 2015 peeps said they wanted it their way sans the creepy greyish beef patty and their request were happily met with kickass veggie burger options. From Wendy’s to White Castle and Taco Bell, the final bells tolled for the days of bleak meat options. Let’s be real, humans are obsessed with protein … but when they finally discovered that protein can come from plants, the entire game changed! Now everyone is getting on the plant train. Yurrrrp, we’re lovin it.

Yes, yes we are!

3. Eggs Made an Exit

What came first? The chicken or the eggless mayo? 2015 sure did answer that question with a resounding “Who cares what came first when we’re defining what comes next.”

Sooooooo last year…

This year eggs got dropped from mayo, scrambles, and even baked goods and people were not only okay with it, they were asking for more! Hey, why wait for a chicken to even think about laying an egg when you can replace that with plant protein in the blink of an eye.

….Oh and One Green Planet launched the #EatForThePlanet campaign. Everybody who’s anybody is using #EatForThePlanet and sharing their awesome vegan food photos with the world. With all the drool worthy noms I’ve seen, there’s no doubt that 2015 was pretty sweet but 2016 promises to be even sweeter. As my dad says, “The real war against climate change is being fought on our plates, multiple times a day with every food choice we make.” So if you want to save the world, why not start with the food in your bowl!

So, what are you waiting for? Join the #EatForThePlanet movement today!
