The plant-based movement has continued to grow so much that Mintel recently predicted that even vegan barbecue, like jackfruit products, would soar in popularity this summer. And now, along those same lines, Mintel reports that around half of Europeans regularly opt for meat-free days!
Spain leads this group with 61 percent of those surveyed saying they intentionally have meat-free days. Germany follows at 57 percent, then Poland at 55 percent, and Italy and France at 45 percent. Impressive numbers!
And the trend looks promising in North America as well. Mintel’s report also notes that 33 percent of American consumers plan on buying more plant-based food products within the next year, with millennials tallying in at 37 percent. And 34 percent of Canadian consumers say they try to moderate how much meat they consume because of health concerns.
It is so encouraging to see the international community making efforts toward creating a healthier and more humane future. Considering industrialized animal agriculture contributes more greenhouse gas emissions than the entire transportation sector combined, and is responsible for dangerous air and water pollution, living a plant-based lifestyle is beneficial for the planet and can cut your carbon footprint in half. Of course, choosing to go plant-based will also save numerous innocent animals from torture and slaughter, as well as help improve your personal health.
