Any Green Monsters looking to kick-off their Memorial Day weekend with an awesome act of kindness? Well, you are in luck! Empty the Tanks Worldwide kicks off May 24th in a wonderful display of solidarity for all of the captive marine mammals being held around the world.
There are 52 event locations spanning across 21 countries worldwide that will be participating in this incredible campaign to help raise awareness about the plight of captive whales and dolphins. This is the campaign’s second year, and the number of locations has more than doubled from last year’s offerings.
With all of the recent news exposing the horrific practices of Sea World, the Taiji Whale Museum, and countless whale and dolphin hunts, it is clear that something must be done to protect these animals; otherwise, we stand to see them disappear from the wild right before our eyes.
As Rachel Carbary writes on the Empty the Tanks website, “entertainment parks have no place in the 21st century. We know the level of awareness these animals have. We know their social connections, their eating habits, and natural wild behaviors… It is animal slavery, and it needs to be brought to the general public’s attention.”
It is time we stop talking about all the terrible things sea life entertainment parks are doing and stand up to give an active voice to the thousands of animals that cannot speak for themselves. To join Carbary and many, many others involved in this amazing public awareness campaign, click here to find a location near you and kick-off this long weekend the right way!
