It sometimes happens that adopted dogs find themselves once more in the shelters they were just taken out of. The reasons for this are many – a bad fit for the family, a tougher than anticipated character, a really hasty and irresponsible decision about adoption… But in case of Helena, a dog recently returned to Fulton County Animal Services in Atlanta, Georgia, the reason was really something else. Helena was brought back to the shelter because … she was literally too good of a dog.

Helena was introduced by LifeLine Animal Project as “the sweetest, nicest, snuggliest dog.” And it is no hyperbole. Helena was returned to the shelter by the people who were to become her guardians because – as they said – “she was too nice and just wanted to be around them all the time!”

“This Velcro dog sounds just about perfect to us,” the charity writes.

“And we know there’s a family out there waiting to spend their nights binge-watching Netflix and snuggling with this sweet velvet hippo.”

Now if the term “velvet hippo” does not make you want to go right to Atlanta and adopt Helena, then we do not know what will!

Helena was clearly very unlucky to be picked up by people who could not deal with her amazing character and her determination to give one hundred percent of her heart to her new family. But, being the first class cuddle aficionado that she is, this sweet pup is sure to find a fantastic home soon – and a guardian as excited to spend time with her as she will be to spend time with them!

It\'s possibly not the full story, maybe she suffered separation anxiety and was wrecking the home if they left her. Good luck to the Velvet Hippo!

She would be perfect for the right person/people! What a teddy bear!

that is pathetic. They could not appreciate a dog who clearly just wanted love an appreciation. She is adorable and surely someone will want to give this girl a home and lots of cuddling. What a sweetie she is. I have 2 dogs and that is all I can do (beside the 3 cats and 2 birds). Hopefully those people will not get another dog.

It\'s too bad the adoptive family did not appreciate her charms! But I must commend them for returning her to the shelter, instead of dumping her somewhere unsafe or dangerous, like some people have done...
