4. Texas Education Officials Want to Rewrite Climate Science in State Textbooks: What You Need to Know

In a recent move, officials in Texas have called for changes to the state’s science textbooks, specifically in regard to climate science. The Texas State Board of Education, which is predominantly made up of Republicans, has asked schools to focus on the “positive” aspects of fossil fuels in educational material. This has led to the board wanting to disconnect Global warming from rising emissions and instead attribute the changes to “natural” fluctuations.

President Joe Biden plans to designate Avi Kwa Ame in Nevada as a national monument next week, marking the largest area he has placed under national Conservation since taking office. At nearly half a million acres, the area is a sacred site for Fort Mojave and other Native American tribal nations, and Biden has previously announced his commitment to protecting it.

8. San Francisco Bay Area to Phase Out Natural Gas Appliances

The San Francisco Bay Area is taking a major step towards improving air quality by phasing out natural gas-fueled water heaters and furnaces. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) recently approved new rules that seek to eliminate harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from these appliances. The rules will ban the sale of NOx-emitting natural gas water heaters in 2027 and prohibit NOx-emitting furnaces in 2029, with large commercial water heaters following suit in 2031.
