Researchers analyzed data from more than 240,000 participants in the UK Biobank database who did not initially have hypertension, using residential addresses and a European modeling tool to determine exposure to road traffic noise.

6. RSPCA Raises Concerns Over Gene Editing of Pets Under New English Law

The Genetic Technology (Precision Breeding) Act, which was recently signed into law in England, has raised concerns about the welfare of pets. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) has warned that this act, which allows for creating and marketing of genetically modified plants and vertebrate animals, including pets, could lead to the creation of cats and dogs with powerful features.

7. Scientists Create 3D-Printed Vegan Nose for Surgery

Swansea University scientists are developing a 3D-printed nose made from artificial cartilage that could be a game-changer for people who have lost their noses due to accidents or cancer. Currently, surgeons need to extract cartilage from victims’ ribs to create the superstructure of a new nose, requiring multiple operations in which up to three lower ribs are removed. The procedure can result in long-term health problems, and the cartilage obtained is less flexible and more brittle than that of the nose, making it less than ideal.
