Serious hero alert! Just recently, a cow who was being led into a transport truck destined for a Southern Poland slaughterhouse made the brave decision to escape their ill fate. The cow bolted from the truck, plowed into a metal mesh fence, and ran to nearby Lake Nyskie. The farmhands went to the lake to try to get the cow back, but the cow was having none of that and one of the employees suffered a broken arm and bruised ribs during the rescue attempt.

But this awesome escape story isn’t over yet! The cow then swam to an island in the middle of Lake Nyskie. The farmer told Wiadomosci he even saw the cow dive underwater at one point. The cow has been living on the island for three weeks now after many unsuccessful capture attempts. Anytime the farmer or firefighters would get to the island by boat, the cow would dive back into the water and swim away from them. Go, cow, go!

The brave cow has caught the attention of thousands, even local Poland politician Pawel Kukiz shared the story on Facebook and called the cow a hero. “I am not a vegetarian, but fortitude and the will to fight for this cow’s life is invaluable! Therefore, I decided to do everything to (first) cause the cow to be delivered to a safe place and in the second stage, as a reward for her attitude, give her a guarantee of a long-term retirement and natural death.” How great is that!

This certainly isn’t the first time an animal has evaded the slaughterhouse. Another cow in the Netherlands recently escaped the slaughter truck and has been happily living in the woods for six weeks. And of course, we can’t forget the story of the badass ladycow who broke out of her farm, also in Poland, and joined a wild Bison herd!

According to SF Gate, an offer to give the cow a loving, forever home has been made so we are keeping our fingers crossed that this fearless cow can kindly be moved to a sanctuary. We are sure the island life has its perk, but the cow would probably be happier living with other animals in a safe haven.

While society may see cows as merely food, this is another escape story that proves yet again how cows are intelligent, sensitive beings who want to live. Be sure to share this article within your network to show how awesome cows are!
