The coronavirus pandemic shows no sign of slowing down in the United States. More than half of the United States are still showing cases increasing. We’re seeing new data on death rates, the vaccine progress, and antibody tests.
Numbers released by New York City showed data that at least 100 homeless people in the city have died from the coronavirus. The city released data detailing how the pandemic was affecting populations living in shelters and those without housing available. Over four months, 1,300 people have tested positive.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country’s leading infectious disease doctor said we would know whether a coronavirus vaccine is safe and effective by the end of this year, or early 2021. With multiple vaccine candidates, he said, “if things go the way it looks like they’re going, one of these will enter phase 3 at the end of July.” Phase 3 is the final trial phase for a vaccine. While scientists have been working around the clock to speed up a possible vaccine, Fauci is assuring everyone of the push for safety. “I want to assure everybody — because you and I are in all these conversations, often many times a day and late into the night — that there will be no compromising on the principles of safety and efficacy,” he said. “Whatever we come up with in a few months is going to be just as rigorously tested as any vaccine ever has been.”
Biotechnology company Regeneron announced the late-stage trial for an antibody cocktail that could help treat and prevent the coronavirus. “We are running simultaneous adaptive trials in order to move as quickly as possible to provide a potential solution to prevent and treat COVID-19 infections, even in the midst of an ongoing global pandemic,” according to Dr. George D. Yancopoulos, co-founder, president and chief scientific officer of Regeneron.

Scientists believe that the spread of COVID-19, or coronavirus, started at an exotic animal market in Wuhan, China. You can help stop the incidence of viruses like these by signing this petition to ban the wildlife trade.
