In fact, this isn’t where the similarities between elephants and humans. Elephants live in complex social groups and have demonstrated the ability to sympathize with their family members as well as love and mourn them. Babies typically stay with their mothers for the first few years of life and even when they reach adolescence, they maintain a deep bond with their herd. Unfortunately, not everyone recognizes these traits in elephants and only see them for the value of their ivory tusks. As a result of this, nearly one elephant is poached every 15 minutes. Once we learn to love and respect the elephant for their inherent worth we can help to see a change in this vicious pattern.
