Animal Welfare Groups Urge Chinese to Stop Eating Dogs

The Ta Foundation, an animal welfare group, in collaboration with other groups has come out with advertisements and social campaigns persuading people in China to stop eating dog meat.

The videos call for people to give up eating dogs are being broadcast 20 times  day n nine of Beijing’s outdoor advertising screens and screens of many office buildings.

Traders of dog meat and fans of dog meat cuisine are opposed to the campaign. Huang Xiaoshan, a Beijing resident, wrote on his micro blog that if people stop eating dog meat, animal rights groups may “persuade people not to have beef, chicken and fish”.

Dating dogs in China dates back to the Neolithic Age and is socially acceptable as people believe the meat has medicinal qualities and can help combat diseases such as cold.
