A new study has shown that hydroxychloroquine, the drug taken and recommended by President Trump for coronavirus treatment, does not help prevent infection from the coronavirus. President Trump took hydroxychloroquine last month after he found out his valet was diagnosed with the coronavirus.
Health experts warned against taking the drug after the president’s announcement. The study now confirms what health experts expected, that hydroxychloroquine doesn’t work to prevent coronavirus. The author of the study, Dr. David Boulware, said the White House physician contacted him to ask about the drug and the study’s progress. Boulware said there was no published research and that preliminary results from his study showed side effects like nausea and vomiting.
Boulware, an infectious disease expert, said, “I knew they were probably going to ignore what I said because the White House had been talking about hydroxychloroquine for weeks and weeks and weeks.” 40% of patients that took hydroxychloroquine experienced side effects, compared to 17% of the placebo group. While additional testing is needed and is happening at other universities, this is the first study to show that it’s not effective.
Scientists believe that the spread of COVID-19, or coronavirus, started at an exotic animal market in Wuhan, China. You can help stop the incidence of viruses like these by signing this petition to ban the wildlife trade.
This is a good time to reconsider our intake of animal products to stay healthy. Eating more plant-based foods is known to help with chronic inflammation, heart health, mental wellbeing, fitness goals, nutritional needs, allergies, gut health and more! Dairy consumption also has been linked to many health problems, including acne, hormonal imbalance, cancer, prostate cancer and has many side effects.
