Beauty company The Body Shop announced in a press release that by the end of 2023, the company’s entire beauty portfolio will be certified vegan.
The company’s products will be certified by The Vegan Society and carry the Vegan Trademark. Currently, 60% of the products carried by the company are labeled vegan.
The Vegan Society’s thorough approach to certification includes checking every supplier and manufacturer of raw materials. The Body Shop uses over 3,700 raw materials.
The company also announced 500 stores will have refill stations in 2021, with an additional 300 stations in 2022.
Lionel Thoreau, Global Brand Director, The Body Shop says: “Going 100% vegan is a natural next step for us and vegan beauty is a critical next step in our sustainability and environmental endeavors. This, along with our global refill and in-store recycling programmes makes The Body Shop a destination for ethically-minded customers. We want refills to become mainstream – easy and accessible to everyone. This is just our first step in a 5-year plan to roll out refill stations across the globe.”

Animal testing is a useless and unethical part of scientific research, the testing is found to be ineffective, as 95% of drugs that pass animal tests fail on humans. Numerous companies are standing up against animal testing and recently the USDA made a decision to eliminate some mammalian testing by 2025 but there’s more to be done and it’s time countries ban animal experimentation altogether as it hurts humans as well.
