The British primatologist has conducted groundbreaking studies on chimpanzees along with her efforts in Conservation.
Barbie Jane is dressed in a khaki shirt and shorts and holding a notebook with a pair of binoculars around her neck. David Greybeard, the chimpanzee Dr. Goodall dedicated her first groundbreaking research papers, also accompanies the doll. Dr. Goodall began her research in east Africa in 1960, observing chimpanzees.
“When I heard that Jane Barbie Doll was going to be made, I was really happy,” Dr. Goodall told Inside Edition.
“When I was growing up, there weren’t any female role models. I was helped by a mother who supported my dream, but my heroes, my models were Tarzan and Dr. Doolittle, and there weren’t women doing the kind of things I wanted to do.”
Mattel has said it would partner with Jane Goodall Institute and her youth service movement, Roots & Shoots, which helps teach children about environmental impact.
“Mattel has changed its range of dolls and there’s all kinds of astronauts and doctors and things like that. So many children learn about me at school. They’ll be thrilled to have the Barbie doll,” Goodall told Reuters.
