There is nothing quite like a bad day. Maybe you were run off your feet, you had to deal with a horrible client (or co-worker!), you received bad news or you had a disagreement with someone. Whatever it is, you don’t want to let this dictate your evening and ruin your sleep. Here are seven easy and healthy ways to shake a bad day:

1. Have a Shower

Take a nice, hot shower and picture the stresses melting away as the water runs over you. Focus on, once you get out of the shower, putting the day to bed and starting afresh.

2. Cook a Big Dinner, With Dessert

Cooking an extravagant dinner takes your mind off your situation. You’re too busy making sure you don’t burn the pine nuts to worry about what happened during the day, and once you serve your meal, you’ll have a feeling of accomplishment and a moment to savor the delicious meal in front of you. Here are some ideas.

3. Go for a Walk

Isn’t nature a great stress killer? Enjoy nature and appreciate what is around you, take deep breaths of the fresh air, or even challenge yourself and get distracted with a run.

4. Write it Down

Writing things down is a wonderful way to achieve closure. You write in what was bothering you, you close the book, and you put your bad day behind you and move on.

5. Do the Jobs You Have Been Putting Off

Spring clean your mind with a bit of cleaning. Sorting your pantry will take your mind off events, and scrubbing the bathroom will let you take out your aggression!

6. Do a Few Minutes of Yoga

A whole class of yoga will have you well and truly on the path to forgetting about a bad day, but if you can’t make it there, my favorite poses for distressing are the Viparata Karani (legs up the wall pose) and Matsyasana (fish pose). You’ll be feeling the zen in no time!

7. Do Something That Makes You Laugh

Be spontaneous and do something fun. Last minute dinners with friends and their crazy conversations, a trip to see a funny movie, or a game of mini golf will soon take your mind off things.

A bad day doesn’t have to ruin your evening. Try some of these tips to shake off the stress and move on from the day.
