Luxury brands Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga are the latest fashion brands to announce fur-free policies. The Kering-owned brands announced their plans at the end of March.

The information was shared in the company’s 2020 Universal Registration document, which reads “Most of the Group’s Houses do not use fur. For example, Gucci is part of the Fur Free Retailer program promoted by NGO Fur Free Alliance, and has banned the use of furs across its entire range since its Spring/Summer 2018 collections. Gucci is also committed to no longer using angora. Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen and MCQ also no longer use fur in their collections.”

We applaud Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen for taking this important step! Kitty Block, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States and CEO of Humane Society International, said in an emailed statement, “Every time a big fashion name like Alexander McQueen or Balenciaga goes fur-free, it sends a clear message that fur has no place in a modern society. This is a statement that consumers care more about sustainable solutions than the fur trim on a bag or a coat. We look forward to continuing our work with Kering, and the rest of the industry, to ensure that humane and innovative materials are the future of fashion.”

Every year, millions of animals are raised and killed for their fur. The animals at fur farms are kept in tiny cages their entire lives. It’s been proven that the mental health of animals on fur farms, like all captive animals, suffers greatly. They pace and self-mutilate. Then, they are killed in gruesome ways like gassing, bludgeoning, and electrocution. Fashion houses Stella McCartney, Gucci, Versace, and Giorgio Armani do not use fur or have announced they will stop using fur in the production of their clothing. We hope other cities, states, and countries follow suit!

Sign this petition to ban fur farming in the European Union and let’s pledge to go fur-free!
