Cases of coronavirus are still rising in many states in the country and the WHO said June 18 was the day it received its highest ever case count. Some states have made masks mandatory, like California, and others are not telling citizens to wear masks to help prevent the spread. The World Health Organization’s (WHO) director-general is urging people to consider basic respect and understanding to help combat the coronavirus.

WHO Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said during a Friday briefing that basic hygeine goes a long way in preventing the spread of the coronavirus. “We can actually keep away this virus by doing the basics. By understanding that this is everybody’s business, and each and every individual should take care of herself and himself and his loved ones should care about the others to when we do that, we could really suppress this virus.”

Tedros said basics like setting up contact tracing systems, keeping social distances, wearing masks and hand washing are all important in preventing the spread of the coronavirus. He urged caution after June 18th was the day with the highest reported number of cases, with over 150,000 reported to the WHO.

Like other health experts, Tedros warned the risks of the virus were still high,”The world is in a new and dangerous phase. Many people are understandably fed up with being at home. Countries are understandably eager to open up their societies and economies. But the virus is spreading fast, it is still deadly, and most people are still susceptible.”

Scientists believe that the spread of COVID-19, or coronavirus, started at an exotic animal market in Wuhan, China. You can help stop the incidence of viruses like these by signing this petition to ban the wildlife trade.

This is a good time to reconsider our intake of animal products to stay healthy.
