Because of the coronavirus pandemic, there are a limited number of countries allowing Americans in. The European Union is closed to Americans and Canada and Mexico are not allowing American citizens through land borders.

The  U.S. State Department has had a Global Level 4 Health Advisory posted since March 31, which says, “The Department of State advises U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19.”


As of July 10, Americans can travel to the following places:

  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Aruba
  • Bahamas
  • Bermuda
  • Croatia
  • Jamaica
  • Mexico (accessible by plane)
  • St. Barth’s
  • St. Lucia
  • Tanzania
  • Serbia
  • Turkey
  • United Arab Emirates
  • United Kingdom

Each of these places has individual rules, many require a negative COVID-19 test to enter the country, and some require a 14-day quarantine upon arrival. Many countries plan to open to Americans later in July and August.

Additionally, many countries have their own pandemic-related rules including shop closures, quarantines, curfews, limited services or other changes. Many places also have criteria or pandemic rules that change daily, which can leave travelers stranded.
