Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear about, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with your friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.

Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including Tell Florida Hotels to Allow Hurricane Victims to Bring Their Pets to Stay, Tell Australia that Kangaroos are Not Pets, and Fire Officers Who Arrested a Black Man For Watering His Neighbor’s Flowers!

1. Tell Florida Hotels to Allow Hurricane Victims to Bring Their Pets to Stay

Source: MSNBC/Youtube

Hurricane Ian ripped through Florida, and many families have had to evacuate their homes with their loved ones and furry friends. The storm has caused flooding, and millions are still left without electricity. These people have enough to worry about and should not have to decide whether to take or leave their pets. Rosen Hotels & Resorts announced that they are waiving pet fees for those who need to evacuate their homes, and there’s no reason other hotels shouldn’t do the same.

Hurricane Ian is one of the most powerful storms ever recorded in southwest Florida. These people should not have to choose whether to take to leave their pets. Hotels need to understand that these furry friends as just as much of family as human members.

Sign this petition to demand Florida hotels and chains allow pets to shelter with their owners amid the aftermath of the devastating hurricane!

2. Demand Animal Cruelty Charge For Montana Woman Who Shot and Skinned a Dog

Source: KRTV NEWS/Youtube

A Montana woman slaughtered a Siberian Husky that she said she thought was a wolf and bragged about it online. The woman is now under investigation after posting a series of photos on Facebook showing the Siberian Husky that she shot, skinned, and then posed with the poor animal’s carcass.

The woman, Amber Rose, said that she thought the Siberian Husky was a baby wolf. She wrote on Facebook that it was a “great feeling” to text her “man” about the slaughter.

“So this morning I set out for a solo predator hunt for a fall black bear, however, I got the opportunity to take another predator wolf pup 2022,” Rose wrote. “Was a great feeling to text my man and say I just smoked a wolf pup.”

She later claimed that she opened fire because she thought that the animal was a “hybrid,” and she feared for her life. She admitted that she made a “mistake” but said that if she was in the situation again, even knowing what she knows now, she would still shoot the dog.

Her shooting an innocent wolf would not have been any better, it is concerning how excited she was when she thought she killed a member of the next generation of threatened wolves.

Sign this petition to demand that the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office charge this woman with animal cruelty and revoke her hunting license!

3. Tell Austalia that Kangaroos are Not Pets

Source: ABC News (Australia)/Youtube

A kangaroo and his keeper both died in Australia after the kangaroo attacked the man, and authorities shot the animal dead. The man had raised the animal since he was a joey, but the bond was not enough to prevent this violent incident. Kangaroos are not meant to be pets!

Although it is illegal to keep a kangaroo as a pet in the state of Western Australia, all someone would have to do to get a kangaroo to keep is travel to Victoria in Southeastern Australia, where it is allowed. The law in Victoria says that a kangaroo can not be wild if it is kept as a pet. However, keeping a kangaroo does not necessarily lead to domestication. Pets are still driven by their wild animal instincts. When a kangaroo is around three years old, and they are not feeding or resting, they fight. These animals should not be stuck inside a human home, they should be out in the wild where they belong!

Sign this petition to demand that Animal Welfare Victoria amend its policies and ban kangaroo ownership for good!

4. Demand Investigation into Gainesville PD After K9 Ripped Out Black Man’s Eye During Traffic Stop

Source: FOX 35 Orlando/Youtube

This July, Florida police officers pulled over a Black driver near Gainesville, Florida. The man claimed that he had run through a stop sign, however, since the incident, police have confessed that there is no stop sign at that intersection at all. The police ordered the man to exit the car. Being a Black man pulled over, he was scared and ran into nearby bushes. When he left, his elbow nudged against the cops who took this as “using force” against them. After they found contraband items in his car, they released the unit’s K9 on the man.

When the dog found him, Bradley begged for police to stop the dog, but they refused. He screamed and shouted. He told police that he had his eye ripped out of the socket, but they let the dog continue to maul the man. Eventually, they ordered the man to stand up.

For months the police department resisted calls from the public to share the bodycam footage. When they finally did, it’s clear why they wanted to hide it for so long. The footage that they released was also obviously clipped and edited.

In the videos, one of the cops says, “We need EMS now. The eye is out.” And then, police went on to arrest Bradley.

The police report even blames the victim for the mauling. To make matters worse, the Gainesville Police Department was recently sued by a former police officer who said there was widespread and systemic racism within the K9 unit specifically. The former employee says that the staff consistently referred to Black residents and officers using racial slurs.

5. Fire Officers Who Arrested a Black Man For Watering His Neighbor’s Flowers

Source: NBC News/Youtube

Pastor Jennings stopped by his neighbor’s home to make sure that his plants were watered and taken care of while they were on vacation. He in no way thought that he was breaking the law, but according to Childersburg Police in Alabama, he was. After Pastor Jennings explained that he lived nearby and had been asked to be on the property, police continued to harass and distrust him.

The police took Jennings away in the back of the police car. The woman who made the call to the police finally realized that recognized Jennings and said had made a mistake. The police still arrested and charged the man anyways.

Sign this petition to demand that the Childersburg Police Department fire all officers involved in the unlawful arrest of Jennings!

6. Demand Justice For Woman Who Was Handcuffed in a Parked Car on Train Tracks and Was Hit by a Train

Source: The Denver Post/Youtube

Police left a 20-year-old woman handcuffed to a car on the train tracks, and she was hit by a freight train. The police say that they left her there while they went to search her car. Everyone knows not to ever park a car on train tracks. In a video of the incident, a freight train can be seen hitting the police cruiser with the woman inside, and the woman suffered multiple broken bones and a head injury.

It is a miracle that the woman survived the horrific crash, but she had a long road to recovery, including multiple surgeries.

“She saw it coming and could hear the horn,” said Paul Wilkinson, the woman’s lawyer. “She was trying to get the police officers’ attention, screaming at them. She tried unlocking the door. She had her hands behind her back and was frantically trying to unlock the door.”

There is no excuse for such carelessness.

7. Demand Universal Meals Programs for Children Across the United States

Source: ABC 10 News/Youtube

This year, California made the Free School Meals for All Act. Under this new act, all children from kindergarten to 12th grade will have the option of receiving two free meals per day at school. Under the existing National School Lunch Program, some students can get free or reduced lunches, but there are multiple caveats. Schools use household income to determine if students qualify but this leaves many children who need free lunches to slip through the cracks.

The current National School Lunch Program states that children of families who make under $36,075 qualify for free school meals. Those who earn less than around $51,000 can receive meals at a reduced cost. People who make just a few more dollars than the limit are left to scramble to feed their children. The guidelines don’t take into account the cost of living and how much more expensive things are now.

Sign this petition to demand that the remaining 48 states and Washington D.C. follow California and enact universal meal programs now!

8. Demand Iran Drop the Death Penalty and Free LGBTQ+ Activists

Source: i24NEWS English/Youtube

According to human rights groups, the Islamic Republic of Iran has sentenced two women, Zahra Seddiqi Hamedani, 31, and Elham Choubdar, 24, to death for their links to LGBTQ+ activists on social media.

The courts in Iran charged the women with “corruption of Earth” for promoting homosexuality, promoting Christianity, communicating with media hostile to Iran, and even for sex-trafficking charges, which is likely untrue.

Seddiqi Hamedani appeared in a BBC documentary about the abuses faced by the LGBTQ+ people in the region. She was arrested in Iran for attempting to flee to Turkey from the Kurdistan region, where she was tortured and imprisoned for her appearance in the documentary. Both women have been sentenced to death.

9. Suspend Environment Harming Cattle Ranching on U.S. Public Lands and National Parks

Source: Earthling Ed/Youtube

Meat production is destroying the environment, and billions of animals are dying. A new study found that cattle ranching is destroying the planet too. The study examined the Point Reyes National Seashore and confirmed that water Pollution is occurring in the protected area due to ranchers. One-third of the National Park Service’s land at Point Reyes is leased to ranchers which makes up around 28,000 total acres. An average of 5,000 cattle graze this land. All of this ranching would not be happening without the meat and dairy industry.

Grazing has been proven to harm ecosystems, endanger native species, cause desertification, and pollute water. Many parks around the country have cut back on cattle grazing because of this, but they have not at Point Reyes. Private ranching on this land is government subsidized, which means that the government is willingly and knowingly polluting our water.

10. Investigate Dr. Oz for Medical Scams

Source: Vox/Youtube

Dr. Oz is no stranger to medical scandals and shams. He is known for scamming the public and pushing false “newest, fastest fat-buster” type treatments. While he is technically a physician, it is clear that he continuously chooses fame and money over actually doing what is right.

A new Health News Review’s analysis of Dr. Oz’s statements on TV found that 78 percent of them were not in line with “evidence-based medical guidelines.” To make matters worse, he is even attempting to enter politics now!
