Help keep One Green Planet free and independent! Together we can ensure our platform remains a hub for empowering ideas committed to fighting for a sustainable, healthy, and compassionate world. Please support us in keeping our mission strong.

Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear about, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with your friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.

Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are 11 petitions you should sign this week, including Protect Birds from Crashing into Windows, Justice for Dog Thrown Out of a Moving Car, and Call on Amazon to Become Carbon Neutral.

We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

1. Protect Eastern Indigo Snakes

Snakes don’t have the greatest of reputations, yet they play a crucial role in our ecosystem. Despite this, the Eastern indigo snake has been disappearing and is now listed as a federally protected species because of human encroachment on their habitats. Several decades ago, they were prevalent in Alabama but then became extinct in the state. Conservationists, however, have helped breed the snakes and introduce them back to their native state. To make sure these snakes don’t go extinct again, please sign this petition to urge the government to protect the habitats of these rare and beautiful reptiles.

2. Protect Birds from Crashing into Windows

It’s estimated that one billion birds die every year from flying into buildings. New research, however, has discovered that bright lights in buildings may be causing a large portion of these unfortunate deaths. Yet despite this, Chicago is planning on building a casino in an area where bird deaths are very common. This will inevitably lead to more deaths as casinos have very bright lights and they are on late into the night. Please sign this petition to urge the Chicago Department of Planning and Development to not allow this casino to be built.

3. Urge Authorities to Find Animal Abusers in the UK

Recently, there have been four horrific cases of animal abuse in the UK. Two of those cases involved breeders who abandoned dogs who were in terrible shape and neglected. Another involved stuffing a puppy into a trash bag, with his dead sibling, and throwing them into a trash can. In the last one, someone dumped a box with a kitten inside, onto a field. When rescuers found her, she was soaked and her leg was in such bad shape that it needed to be amputated. Please sign this petition to urge authorities in the UK to find these heartless criminals before they cause more harm!

Duck hunting is prohibited throughout much of Australia, yet it continues in some areas, including Victoria. Recently, on just the first day of the hunting season, it was discovered that protected and threatened species had been murdered there. On top of that, many birds who were shot weren’t gathered up by hunters and were left to suffer for what may have been weeks. Please sign this petition to urge the government of Victoria to ban this sadistic and unnecessary bloodsport once and for all!

5. Justice for Dog Thrown Out of a Moving Car

In Kent, England, a driver witnessed someone throw a dog out of their window while driving 50 mph. The dog, Freya, was alive but had obviously been suffering from severe neglect and is being closely monitored after her surgery. The person who committed this heinous act still hasn’t been found and could be unleashing more terror on vulnerable animals. Please sign this petition to urge authorities to keep them from hurting anyone else!

Source: WCVB Channel 5 Boston/YouTube

There are less than 340 North Atlantic right whales in existence. At one time, there were well over 20,000 of them, but hunting dropped their numbers below 100. Though hunting has since been banned, the whales have recently begun to lose more of their population again, this time from being hit by ships and getting tangled in fishing gear. However, senator Cory Booker has introduced legislation that would protect them. Please sign this petition to demand Congress pass this legislation to keep North Atlantic right whales from going extinct!

An ectopic pregnancy is when a fertilized egg grows on the exterior of the uterus. The pregnancy can’t be carried out in the normal fashion when this happens and it’s the primary cause of death for women in their first trimester. The fetus is also guaranteed to die, even if the mother survives, and the only way to save the mother is to administer an abortion. Despite this, a bill is being introduced in Missouri which would ban ectopic abortions after ten weeks. Please sign this petition to urge Missouri legislators to reject this regressive bill!
