A recently leaked draft report revealed that Harvard still holds the remains of thousands of Native American people and many enslaved Africans that were obtained under” the violent and inhumane regimes of slavery and colonialism,” as mentioned in a draft report. The human remains belong to at least 19 individuals who were likely enslaved and nearly 7,000 Native Americans, reported the Harvard Crimson. The Cambridge City Council is urging the school to relinquish the remains to their descendants.

“In order to allow these individuals to at last rest in peace, it is imperative that the University move with all due speed, care, and deliberation to ensure that these remains are turned over to the appropriate parties for the proper, respectful burial they deserve,” said Councilor E. Denise Simmons.

While Harvard University cannot go back in time and change its illegal actions, we must demand accountability for the unthinkable harm they have been causing for centuries. Sign this petition to demand that Harvard University return these human remains to the communities from which they were stolen and redistribute any funds they gained from their display and use!
