According to the New York Times, 5.2 million people have already died from Covid worldwide. Countries like the United States are struggling to get every person vaccinated against this pandemic.  But in the United States, we take access to vaccines almost for granted.  Meanwhile, in other nations, vaccine access is severely limited.  In the Central African Republic, for example, only 6.7% of the population is vaccinated.  In Burundi, less than 0.1% of the population is vaccinated.

CEPIGavi, and the World Health Organization (WHO), alongside a key delivery partner in UNICEF, are leading the COVAX initiative to guarantee fair and equitable vaccine access worldwide.  As the World Health Organization explains, this distribution is not only necessary to prevent the tragic loss of life, it is also necessary to stop the spread of the pandemic globally.  With many people unvaccinated, the virus has more opportunities to mutate and spread.  Meanwhile, the devastating health effects are ravaging global economies.  Therefore, the introduction of a vaccine will not only save lives, but will also “prevent the loss of US$ 375 billion to the global economy every month.

COVAX aims to provide vaccines to all countries as soon as they are available, administer doses for at least 20% of countries’ populations, end the acute phase of the pandemic, and rebuild economies.  Sign this petition to support COVAX and increase access to vaccines.
