Unfortunately, every year, beloved pets like dogs and cats as well as children fall victim or die from such hot weather-related conditions due to ignorance or poor judgment by parents and guardians. Most people who leave a child or animal in a car without ventilation or air conditioning do not realize just how quickly the car will become deadly. Brain damage, pain, suffering, and even death due to heatstroke or suffocation are some of the tragic results of a pet or child being left inside a hot car for even a short period.

The hot cars act would require every single new car to have technology built-in to detect the presence of an animal or child in a car that’s turned off. This would alert unwitting people if they accidentally left an animal or child in the car and it’s not safe, and it would save lives! This bill is critically needed, as just a moment of forgetfulness or distraction can quickly turn fatal for vulnerable children and animals. Sign this petition to demand Congress passes the Hot Cars Act of 2019 to keep children and animals alike safe!
