A 39-year-old disabled Nigerian man was beaten to death in public in Italy while bystanders recorded the incident. This took place in broad daylight, and no one intervened to help the man.

A white Italian man used the victim’s own crutches to brutally kill him in the street. Yet Italian police claim that they will not investigate this as a potential hate crime.

When local police got pushback from the public about their decision, the Deputy Police Commissioner claimed, “there is certainly no racial element.” However, this is not the first killing in a long list of potentially racially-motivated murders in the country that have not been investigated as hate crimes. For example, when two Italian men beat and killed another man while shouting racial slurs and telling him to ‘go back to his country,’ the police did not deem it racially motivated.
