On December 17, 2021, Procter & Gamble issued a recall for over thirty aerosol spray hair care products from various brands including Pantene, Herbal Essences, and Old Spice.

The recall followed the detection of benzene, which was not listed as an ingredient in these products. Benzene is a chemical that can cause cancer and lethal blood disorders through exposure. This includes being ingested, inhaled, or in contact with the skin. P&G claims that the levels of benzene in their products are unlikely to cause harm and stated that nobody has reported any issues caused by the products. However, they issued a voluntary recall and the products have been removed from stores.

Recalling and refunding consumers who purchased and used the product is an important first step, but is not enough.  Sign this petition to demand corporate accountability from Procter & Gamble! It must launch a full investigation into why benzene was found in its products so they can avoid this issue in the future.
