A police officer shot an unarmed 13-year-old in Chicago’s West Side as he was running away from them. At about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of North Cicero Avenue, police stopped a car they suspected was involved in an  Oak Park carjacking. But the situation quickly got out of hand. As the boy ran away, officers chased the boy, and eventually, one officer shot him. The 13-year-old boy collapsed on his side and was hospitalized in serious condition, reports a civilian office.

Thankfully, the boy survived, but the brutal incident could have been avoided. The officers involved in this tragic incident will only be placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days, police reported. This brutality is unacceptable, and they should be fired.
