The recent Black Lives Matter protests have led to let to some cops that are responsible for murdering black people being charged, a ban on “no-knock” raids in Louisville, the repeal of 50-a in New York, police department budget cuts, among other policy changes and symbolic acts. However, there is still a lot of work to be done and progress to be made. People around the U.S. continue to protest and gather in response to injustices and systemic oppression that must be addressed by the government.
While the protests have received a large amount of support and solidarity, there has also been backlash and violence in response to the protests. There have been many accounts of inappropriate, racist, and violent behavior in response to the protests against police brutality. Recently, while people were walking to a BLM protest in Missouri, Mark and Patricia McCloskey, stood on their lawn while holding guns and yelling at the protestors.

Brandishing, using a “dangerous weapon (including a firearm)” to “intimidate” or threaten someone is against the law. More specifically, Missouri state law prohibits “exhibit[ing], in the presence of one or more persons, any weapon readily capable of lethal use in an angry or threatening manner.” The McCloskeys, who are both lawyers, clearly violated this law, but have yet to face any repercussions. No legal action has been taken against the McCloskeys, even though they committed a felony offense. Sign this petition to demand that the state of Missouri disbar Mark and Patricia McCloskey, now!
