Shawn Marshall Myers, a Maryland resident, was convicted of two counts of failure to comply with an emergency order. He was sentenced to a year in jail after he held two parties in violation of the governor’s Covid-19 gathering orders, according to prosecutors.

On March 22, officers were called to Myers home after a large party was reported. 50 people were found at Myers’ home. Myers argued with officials initially, but agreed to disband the party. Officers responded again five days later to another party at his house.

According to the prosecutor’s statement, “Beyond being argumentative, Myers directed his guests to stay in defiance of Governor Hogan’s Orders and the officers’ lawful orders to disband the party. Officers tried to reason with Myers and obtain his cooperation to no avail. Myers was then apprehended.”

Myers was arrested and sentenced to prison, as well as given $6,000 in fines for the violations. Myers will be on probation for three years after the sentence. According to Maryland’s data, 3,722 people have died from the coronavirus in the state and over 122,000 people have been infected.
