The fall coronavirus surge continues. Daily infection rates are setting records and the number of hospitalized patients has increased. Friday, November 6, the United States tallied 1,140 deaths from the virus, the fourth straight day where deaths were over 1,000. By Sunday, November 8, the United States was approaching ten million cases and by November 9, the United States passed the 10 million case mark.
To date, over 236,000 have died from the coronavirus and projections show that over 100,000 could die in the next two months. And experts warn that the trends will continue. States have taken measures to slow the virus and experts are recommending masks.
“We’re going to see these case numbers really start to explode,” Dr. Scott Gottlieb, former Food and Drug Administration commissioner, told CNBC on November 6. This is troubling as the previous week saw three straight days of record-beating case counts. Since November 4, over 100,000 cases have been reported each day.
“We’re building up a lot of trouble for the future,” Gottlieb told CNBC “You have to be really worried what January is going to look like, what December is going to look like right now, given the way this is rising.”
