Dr. Anthony Fauci said that the pandemic will be shorter, thanks to the newly announced vaccine from Pfizer. Speaking to a group at an event hosted by Chatham House, the nation’s leading infectious disease expert shared his thoughts about the current pandemic situation.

“Certainly it’s not going to be a pandemic for a lot longer because I believe the vaccines are going to turn that around. I doubt we’re going to eradicate this,” he said. “I think we need to plan that this is something we may need to maintain control over chronically. It may be something that becomes endemic that we have to just be careful about,” Fauci shared at the virtual summit.

Pfizer announced earlier in the week that their vaccine candidate was over 90% effective. Moderna also announced that their vaccine would be ready with efficacy data shortly.
