Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear about, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with your friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.

Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including End Greyhound Racing, Give Justice To Asylum Seekers, and Stop Overfishing In The Sargasso Sea.

We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

1. Support Indigenous Community Affected By Oil Spill

A pipeline recently burst in Ecuador and polluted several acres of the Amazonian rainforest and a river nearby. Animals and people who depend on the water are now suffering from the toxic oil spill. The company responsible for the mess, OCP Ecuador, had another spill in 2020 because of erosion. A pipeline owned by the state also burst in 2020 for the same reason. The company has not prioritized making its equipment safe. Please sign this petition to Support the indigenous people so they can receive the Support they need from the government.

2. Urge The Korean Government To Protect Animals In The Film Industry

A horse was killed in Korea in the name of a stunt for a tv show. According to the Korean Animal Welfare Association, the film crew had attached wires to the horse’s legs, and while the horse was running, the wires were pulled and the animal came crashing down. A week later the horse died. Please sign this petition to urge the Korean government to create laws that will protect animals in the film industry.

3. End Greyhound Racing

The Welsh government is considering giving a license to a racetrack for greyhounds. In 2020, almost 3,600 greyhounds were injured and another 200 died on licensed tracks. As crazy as it sounds, the numbers were low because fewer races took place due to the pandemic. Luckily, a growing number of people in the UK are opposing this cruel sport. Licensing doesn’t keep dogs safe and it may even lead to more deaths because more races may take place. Please sign this petition urging the government of whales to reject this permit and end the racing of greyhounds too!

4. Rescue Cat From Abusive Woman

A woman in Hong Kong put her cat in a washing machine, turned it on, filmed it and then posted the video on social media. Authorities came and picked up her washing machine and phone, but left the cat with her! While the woman has said she is actually very fond of cats, no one in their right mind would do such a thing. Please sign this petition urging authorities to rescue this cat and bring her to safety.

5. Save Iguanas From Falling Out Of Trees

Florida is experiencing rare frigid temperatures, likely due to human-caused Climate change. A consequence of this cold spell are iguanas becoming so cold that they fall from trees, which can lead to serious injuries or death. Since they are cold-blooded, they can become immobilized in colder weather. Please sign this petition to urge the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to take action against Climate change!

6. Give Justice To Asylum-Seekers

The SPLC has accused immigration officers of not giving asylum-seekers the chance to explain why they are seeking refuge, and then deporting them before their cases are even heard.  The law states that someone who fears returning to their country must be given an interview before deportation can be decided. Please sign this petition so the federal government will look into these allegations!

7. Make Public Transportation Free In Utah

The air Pollution has gotten so bad in Utah that a proposal was introduced which would make all public transportation free. Not only would this help clean up the environment, but it would also allow people to get around easier. The states already removed fares in February to help clean up the air quality, so why not just make it year-round? Please sign this petition to show lawmakers in Utah how important this ruling will be.

8. Tell TikTok To Ban Woman Who Dyed Her Dog Red

A woman on TikTok has gained some notoriety of late for dying her dog red. In response to the backlash she’s received on social media, the woman has made a series of videos explaining why she decided to do it. Her reasons include: people won’t want to steal him, he’s less intimidating to approach, and he is more visible to cars, among others. But it’s also clear she’s doing it for personal gain and attention. What’s more, she might influence other people to dye their dogs’ coats which may lead to them having an allergic reaction or getting sick from licking the dye. Please sign this petition to urge TikTok and Instagram to stop giving this woman the attention she so desperately craves.

9. Stop Overfishing In The Sargasso Sea

In January, the president of Ecuador extended the area of protected waters near the Galapagos Islands. The space will create a migratory passageway for the vast array of sea life in the area.  Another area in need of protection is the Sargasso Sea, off the coast of the United States. It too has a rich variety of sea life and even has many endangered species. However, it’s fallen victim to things like overfishing and Pollution and may soon see much of its biodiversity disappear. To help save this beautiful place please sign this petition urging government to stop overfishing in this area.

10. Help Prevent Violence Against Women In Turkey

Turkey’s president decided to withdraw his country from the Istanbul Convention, an international treaty that served to protected women against violence. This is with Femicide on the rise and reports of some horrifically gruesome murders against females, including one in which a woman was set on fire in a trash can. Please sign this petition to urge the country to rejoin the Istanbul Convention.
