Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear about, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with your friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.
Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including End Elephant Exploitation and Abuse in Thailand, Stop Organized Stalking and Electronic Harassment, Demand Free Menstrual Products in Public Schools!
We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.
1. End Elephant Exploitation and Abuse in Thailand
Source: Thailand Animal Right/Youtube
Due to the devastating effects of COVID-19, activists believe that as soon as restrictions are lifted in Thailand, families will sell their elephants to cruel logging companies or unethical zoos and circuses. Even worse, many of these elephants are pairs of mother and baby and the plan is to separate them. Elephants are forced to toil for hours on end pulling miserably heavy loads on chains that dig and cut into their skin. Sign this petition demanding that the Government of Thailand provide funding for elephant caregivers’ wages and their elephants’ expenses so that these elephants can remain safe and happy, instead of exploited and abused!

2. Investigate Jared Kushner for shady investments from the Saudis

Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner secured a $2 billion investment from Saudi Arabia to his new private equity firm. He is suspected of having given US intelligence to bin Salman on dissidents in the Saudi government. Now he’s being rewarded with $2 billion. We must call on Attorney General Merrick Garland to take charge and demand answers. Sign this petition to demand the Justice Department investigate Jared Kushner for shady investments from the Saudis!

3. Stop Organized Stalking and Electronic Harassment

“Gang Stalking”, also known as “Organized Stalking” and “Cause Stalking”, is a covert protocol of harassment and torture which is widespread in California and around the world. This stalking is characterized by 24/7 surveillance, home break-ins, automobile vandalism, and theft, to name just a few. The organized stalking protocol can last for many years and it is intended to produce isolation and psychological and physical illness. Sign this petition to demand these crimes be acknowledged and dealt with rather than ignored or treated as symptoms of psychosis.

4. Demand Free Menstrual Products in Public Schools
Source: CBC News: The National/Youtube
California recently passed legislation requiring all public schools and colleges to provide free menstrual products for all of their students. While this is a huge win, we need the rest of the United States to follow suit. Currently, many students across the country experience period poverty, which refers to what happens when they don’t have access to bathroom necessities that are menstrual products. Students should not have to stay home and miss school because they don’t have access to these products. Sign this petition asking the U.S. Congress to pass a law requiring all public schools and universities to provide free period products

5. Leave 199-year-old Historic Bailey Park Alone
The Somers Parks & Recreation Dept. has expressed interest in tearing down trees and building 3500 square feet of pavers and a walkway on top of Bailey Park. The cost for this project would cost the taxpayers roughly $143,000. Not only would this destroy the rural character of the town, but they would be taking away memorial benches, a unity garden plaque, and the 19th-century concrete water trough. Sign this petition to make our voices heard save the precious historic land we have left.

6. Repeal the Order Declaring April Confederate History Month!

In an absurd announcement, the Black mayor of Livingston, Tennessee has declared April to be “Confederate History Month.” Claiming that this month will be centered around “heritage, not hate,” Confederacy is rooted in evil and racism. We need to let this mayor know that the country is watching closely and are greatly opposed to promoting the ideals of the Confederacy. Sign this petition to demand Mayor Curtis Hayes repeal the order declaring April “Confederate History Month!”

7. Justice for Patrick Lyoya, Murdered by a Grand Rapids Police
Source: MLive/Youtube
Patrick Lyoya, a 26-year-old refugee from the Congo, was killed by a Grand Rapids police officer. The police department later attempted to reframe this incident as a tragic accident. However, this was no accident. Lyoya was murdered with a gun placed directly on the back of his head. Traffic stops should never end in the murder of a civilian. There is no excuse for this incident. Sign this petition to demand the officer who committed this atrocity to be fired and charged with murder!

8. Tell Seaside Aquarium to Give These Seals to a Sanctuary
Source: The Oregonian/Youtube
The Seaside Aquarium in Seaside, Oregon holds 11 harbor seals captive. The trapped seals live in a small pool-like enclosure, perhaps 8X5 feet and no deeper than 2.5 feet. They are forced to entertain visitors and compete for small bites of fish. Seals should not have to live in captivity for their entire lives. It’s time that these beautiful marine mammals are moved to a sanctuary so they can receive the necessary stimulation they need to live a healthy, normal life. Sign this petition to ask Seaside Aquarium officials to give the seals to a sanctuary where they can live the rest of their life in peace.

9. Pass Law Limiting the Number of Pets in a Given Family

In a Florida neighborhood, almost 100 pets recently died after being trapped in an empty house as it caught on fire. The animals included one bird, five dogs, and a staggering 91 cats. It should be illegal for a homeowner to own that many animals and take care of them properly. This horrific tragedy could have easily been avoided if there were limits on the number of pets a person or family can have. Sign this petition to tell Florida lawmakers to pass a law limiting the number of pets in a given family!

10. Urge Facebook to Enforce its Policies to End Wildlife Trafficking
Source: ShareAmerica/Youtube
Despite Facebook’s promises to fight the illegal wildlife trafficking industry, it persists and continues to profit from the imprisonment and neglect of helpless animals. A recent report by Avaaz claims that Facebook remains a popular platform for cruel animal traffickers. The researchers found that Facebook’s algorithms “help criminals grow their business.” It should not be this easy for wildlife traffickers to find posts seeking to buy or sell live animals. Sign this petition to urge Facebook to strengthen and enforce its policies to end wildlife trafficking!
