A doctor in England ran 22 miles in a mask to prove that masks don’t impair oxygen levels. As the government regularly encourages people to wear masks, many are not and disinformation on the coronavirus continues to spread as the United States passes 5 million cases.

Tom Lawton, the runner, measured his oxygen levels during his runs and reported his progress on Twitter. “The mask didn’t come off at all (no food or drink) — and oxygen levels were stubbornly 98% every time I checked,” he tweeted in July. Lawton said his run was to prove that masks are safe to wear and are necessary to stopping the spread of the coronavirus.

See Lawton’s tweet:

“I was frustrated because I’ve seen some photos where people who sat at a desk wearing a mask and claimed that the oxygen levels dropped just simply wearing a mask,” Lawton told CNN. Lawton ran 8 miles to work while monitoring oxygen levels and then ran another separate 14 miles to measure oxygen again. He admits the mask was uncomfortable but his oxygen levels prove his point.

Health experts continue to recommend masks to citizens and multiple retail stores and states have made mask wearing mandatory. “I don’t think that masks are going to solve this on their own,” Lawton said. “We need to keep distance, comply with isolation, wash hands and wear a mask.”

Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX-1) is a vocal anti-masker that puts himself, his staff, and his fellow Members of Congress at daily risk. Unsurprisingly, he tested positive for COVID-19. However, he proceeded to lie on television that wearing a mask is what caused him to get the virus. Sign this petition to tell the GOP to stop lying and contradicting our public health experts and scientists on COVID facts.
