Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear about, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with your friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.

Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including Demand Nike and Puma Stop Using Kangaroo Skin, Save North Atlantic Right Whales, and Urge the WDFW to Commit to Stop Killing Wolves

We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

1. Demand Nike and Puma Stop Using Kangaroo Skin in their Products

Kangaroo skin, strong but light, has long been sought after for things like football/soccer cleats, baseball mitts, and many types of gloves. The poor animals are taken from their families in the wild and shot, bludgeoned to death, or decapitated. There are so many other ways to make these products that do not require murdering an innocent animal. California is one state that recognizes this and banned the import and selling of kangaroo leather; however, the ban has been weakly enforced. Sign this petition to urge Nike and Puma do the right thing and abide by California law! Tell them to stop selling kangaroo leather products in the state, and commit to phasing out the use of kangaroo leather company-wide!

2. Revoke Abusive Veterinarians’ Licenses

Dr. Daniel Koller is no ordinary veterinarian. He has spent his almost 50-year career victimizing, torturing, and killing innocent pets. He went to jail for hanging a German Shepherd until it passed out and beating it so violently that many of its teeth fell out. Later, the dog was found in a freezer, but no one knows how it died. He has also beat a dog, causing it to hemorrhage, and fired an employee he thought was being too kind and comforting to the pets. The California Veterinary Medical Board revoked his license in 1979, but Dr. Koller moved his work to Oregon where he currently owns and operates 20 clinics and is in “good standing” with the veterinary board there, despite testimony that his treatment of animals has not changed. Sign this petition today if you think every U.S. state’s veterinary board needs to have strict, consistent protocol for revoking vet licenses in the case of animal abuse!

3. Urge Congress to Pass the Maternal CARE Act

When Sha-Asia Washington arrived at the Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn on July 2nd, she was healthy and only a few days past her due date. Doctors kept her in the hospital to watch her blood pressure and on July 7th, they decided to induce labor. Even though Sha-Asia was hesitant, doctors gave her an epidural. She ended up having to undergo an emergency c-section, but only her baby survived. The Sha-Asia’s heart stopped before she even had a chance to meet her child. This is not an isolated case. Black mothers are four to five times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white mothers. Black women are routinely undertreated, disbelieved, and misinformed by doctors and other medical practitioners. In response to this awful reality, Senator Kamala Harris introduced legislation called the Maternal Care Access and Reducing Emergencies (Maternal CARE) Act. It would devote funds to fighting t bias in the medical field as well as identifying high-risk pregnancies and providing appropriate care and support. Sign this petition to urge Congress to pass this bill without delay!

4. Punish Poacher Who Shot A Defenseless Bear Cub For Fun!

A neighborhood in Florida nicknamed their local wandering cub Bailey. This cub likely got separated from its mother and thus, should have been taken to a sanctuary where he could have lived out the remainder of his life in safety. However, Kyle Stevens illegally shot and killed this poor bear cub. Furthermore, because Stevens didn’t notify Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the bear likely suffered even more! Unfortunately, so many different animals suffer this fate. That’s why we’re asking Senator Bernie Sanders,  a long-term advocate for animal rights, to lead a movement in Congress that would punish people like Kyle Stevens, who illegally poach animals. Sign this petition to ask Bernie Sanders to take charge of this issue and impose strict punishments on poachers!

5. Tell Congress to Stop Trump from Sabotaging the USPS

As a result of the current pandemic, many people will need to vote by mail during the November election. However, Trump has been trying to sabotage the USPS for months. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, he refused to fund USPS. Then, Trump installed Louis DeJoy as Postmaster General, who has implemented a series of procedural changes to USPS that have drastically slowed down mail delivery and may shut down offices entirely in the near future. He even fired 23 postal executives, despite their decades of institutional knowledge, in order to centralize decision-making around himself. We need the USPS and we need to be able to vote in this upcoming election without risking our own and other’s lives. Sign this petition to tell Congress to uphold and protect our right to vote by blocking Trump’s sabotage of the United States Postal Service.

6. Punish Cruel Animal Abuser Who Dismembered His Roommate’s Dogs

Matthew Stephen Dieringer, a 30-year-old man from Pueblo, is accused of beating his roommate’s dog, Suka, to death as well as murdering and dismembering his roommate’s dog, Hayoka. These poor dogs suffered so much and now their owner is grieving the loss of two of his best friends. No one should ever treat an animal like this! Sign this petition to Punish Cruel Animal Abuser Who Dismembered His Roommate’s Dogs!

7.  Tell GOP to Stop Contradicting Public Health Experts on COVID Information

Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX-1) is a vocal anti-masker that puts himself, his staff, and his fellow Members of Congress at daily risk. Unsurprisingly, he tested positive for COVID-19. However, he proceeded to lie on television that wearing a mask is what caused him to get the virus. This kind of misinformation is extremely detrimental to public health and encourages dangerous anti-mask sentiments. Sign this petition to tell GOP enablers to stop lying and contradicting our public health experts and scientists on COVID facts.

8. Invest in Ethical Ways to Minimize Interactions Between Livestock and Northern Gray Wolves

The northern gray wolf has been basically hunted to the brink of extinction in the U.S. These wolves have many important roles in their ecosystems: they keep prey populations like deer in check and redistribute nutrients through hunting and movement patterns. Luckily, the population of northern gray wolves has been increasing, they are nowhere near stable and still require a great deal of support from scientists, conservationists, and activists. That’s why it’s so heartbreaking that the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) murdered one after reports that her pack had attacked livestock. Considering habitat destruction and a dwindling pack-size (caused by humane intervention), it’s no wonder that the wolves would roam into human developed areas. Sign this petition to urge the WDFW to commit to stop killing wolves, and instead invest in their future!

9. Save North Atlantic Right Whales, the Rarest of all Large Whales

There are only around 400 North Atlantic right whales left, yet they are still dying due to, collisions with shipping vessels, noise pollution, and fishing net entanglements. These magnificent animals are critically endangered and are in need of more protections as soon as possible. The SAVE Right Whales Act (S. 2453), a bill before Congress supported by members of both parties, would make federal funding available for much-needed conservation efforts to protect the North Atlantic right whale. It would also expand research on ways to reduce vessel collisions and entanglement in fishing gear, which would allow both whales and the coastal communities to peacefully coexist. Sign this petition to ask your senators to help save the North Atlantic right whale from extinction by supporting the SAVE Right Whales Act.

10. No More Bailouts for Factory Farmers

Factory farms across the country have been killing millions of “surplus” farmed animals as a result of their own negligence. They didn’t protect their workers during the COVID-19 outbreak and now, the National Pork Producers Council demanded our government hand over $1.6 billion in taxpayer money to slaughter and dump millions of pigs in landfills. Factory farms abuse animals, exploit workers, and pollute the water and air. Sign this petition and join Full Circle Farm Sanctuary today and send the message loud and clear:  No MORE bailouts for factory farmers!
