The Chinese government has started distributing the coronavirus vaccine to its citizens. The catch? It’s still undergoing clinical trials. At least 350,000 people have been given the vaccine, according to Nikkei Asia.

Long lines were visible outside government buildings where people congregated to receive the vaccine distributed by Sinopharm, a state-run pharmaceutical company.

Beijing is prioritizing people that are traveling abroad, as well as diplomatic employees and healthcare workers. State and company employees are encouraged by management to participate and are required to sign agreements to not discuss the process or their vaccination with the media.

Global health experts worry about the safety of the vaccine, given it hasn’t officially finished its clinical trial period. “There are problems with using a vaccine when its long-term effectiveness and side effects are still uncertain,” a medical industry insider told Nikkei Asia.

Other global vaccine candidates are still in Phase 3 trials and aren’t ready yet for the public.
