Life happens on the earth’s surface. We all know this, however, we have somehow become accustomed to carrying out our everyday lives, without paying any special attention to the other life that happens all around us. That is the living, breathing environment we passively encounter every single day. (If you think really hard you can probably remember hearing a bird or squirrel on your way to work this morning.)
It is easy to get caught up in your daily tasks and lose touch with the environment that surrounds us. Of course, we are all guilty of this from time to time, but sadly, this disconnect has created a huge rift between humans and the natural world. Because of this, we don’t stop to think about how our actions and habits impact the planet and the consequences that result. As we get more reports that tell us animals are disappearing from the planet at an unprecedented rate and the composition of the ocean has been fundamentally altered because of man-made carbon – it becomes pretty clear that we need to start paying attention!
So, if you’re in need of a little reminder of why we need to protect this wonderful, amazing planet, let’s take a step back and look at it from a vantage point we don’t get to see every day: space.
Seeing Earth from space helps us put the role we play in the global ecosystem into perspective.
Humans have a funny habit of acting like we’re the center of the universe.
But from way up here, we’re just as small as any other living creature.
Our world is a truly incredible sight to behold.
So why do we work so hard to try and escape this awesome nature?
There’s nothing as humbling as the reminder that we share this massive blue marble with thousands, upon thousands of other creatures.
Really, could you ever get tired of looking at this?
We can also see just how much humans have influenced the planet.
We might be really small, but we have an enormous ability to alter the world around us.
Don’t you think it’s time we started using that power to change the planet for the better?
Afterall, this is the only planet we have.
So let’s start acting like it!
What Can You Do to Protect Earth?
There are many, many things that we can do to help minimize our impact on the planet, but some of the most powerful methods to do this are also the simplest. Try leaving meat off your plate, if you switch to an entirely plant-based diet you could cut your carbon footprint in half! Not only that, but this one action can help mitigate deforestation and keep pollution out of the air and water.
