Unfortunately, the world is not a very peaceful or safe place for many individuals. From conflict to abuse to exploitation, there is so much cruelty inflicted on both humans and animals. While this can get disheartening and difficult to hear about, petitions are a great way to use your voice for good. Just by signing one, you are a part of helping those who are not treated fairly. You can even share them with your friends and acquaintances to increase your impact.
Through petitions, we can reach those in power and demand justice for others. They are valuable tools for making positive changes in the world. If you are looking for a way to help animals and humans, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including Save The Grand Canyon From Uranium Mining, Tell Walmart to Stop Supporting Monkey Labor, and Help Cats Abandoned on Island!
We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.

Even though the infection rate of COVID-19 in the United States is the highest it has been since the first case was detected in the nation, the people have not seen a comprehensive relief bill since March. How is anyone supposed to survive off that? People have lost their jobs and can’t pay rent or buy groceries. Without an agreement on an extensive, benefit-rich stimulus bill in Congress, Americans’ financial hardships are hitting at the exact same time as a third coronavirus wave. Sign this petition to hold elected officials accountable! Demand that Congress pass an economic stimulus bill immediately!

5. Help Cats Abandoned on Island
Source: ABC News (Australia)/Youtube
Furtada Island, off the coast of Brazil, is known as the “Island of the Cats.” The island started off with two abandoned cats and now has over 250 due to not just reproduction, but also people using the island as a place to dump unwanted cats. Sadly, this island is not very safe for these cats and they are not doing well. There are many dangerous animals and no natural sources of fresh water on the island, leaving the cats at risk of dehydration and kidney diseases. For years, kind people have come to feed the cats and bring them water; however, the pandemic has made this nearly impossible. Sign this petition to demand that the Brazilian government fund efforts to feed and care for these animals, as well as set up catch-and-release spay and neuter programs!

6. Make Sure Everyone Has the Chance to Vote
Source: ABC News/Youtube
Voting should be as accessible as possible to encourage people to take part in our democracy. Unfortunately, Republicans have made voter suppression a core part of their strategy, and people across the United States are disenfranchised. We need to work hard to undo these discriminatory tactics and policies to make sure that elections are free and fair. Same-day voter registration. Automatic voter registration. An end to voter ID laws and voter purges. 24-hour polling places. These will all help polling become more available to people so their voices can be heard too.
Sign this if you think it’s long past time to expand the vote. Take action today!

Unfortunately, millions of Americans don’t even realize their coverage is about to expire, and that they only have until December 15, 2020, to re-enroll. The Trump administration has put zero money and effort into advertising this information to the American people. This is extremely important information that the government should make sure people know. Sign this petition to demand that state and federal government officials advertise information about open enrollment to the American public!

Source: NowThis News/Youtube
Kao Saelee is a refugee from Laos who came to the United States when he was just two years old. As a teenager, he participated in a robbery and was sentenced to 22 years in prison. In both 2018 and 2019, Kao rushed to serve as an inmate firefighter, getting paid next to nothing while risking his life to battle the flames. At 41 years old, Kao was finally set to be released. His sister came to pick him up and they were planning on spending the day swimming and eating at a family barbecue. But that never got to happen. As soon as he was released, guards handed him over to a privately contracted agent who threw him in a van and took him into ICE custody. Kao is now thousands of miles away from his family and has no idea how long he will be there. Sign this petition and ask that once he is sworn into office, Joe Biden save Kao the hero from deportation and allow him to stay with his family in this country that they call home!

10. Tell Walmart to Stop Supporting Forced Monkey Labor
Source: PETA Asia/Youtube
A recent investigation by PETA discovered that Theppadungporn Coconut Co., manufacturer of Chaokoh coconut water, milk, and other products, is exploiting innocent monkeys, forcing them to harvest coconuts while subjecting them to countless cruelties at their farms. When these poor monkeys weren’t being forced to climb up trees to get coconuts for hours on end, they were kept tethered or in tiny cages. A farmer at one of the Theppadungporn properties also told investigators that when the monkeys became unruly from overwhelming fear and stress, handlers sometimes ripped their teeth out of their mouths. In response to this investigation and public outcry, stores like Costco pulled Chaokoh and Aroy-D coconut milk from their shelves. However, Walmart’s response was shameful, vague, and promised zero actual change. Sign this petition and demand that Walmart, the United States’ largest retailer, drop all Chaokoh products immediately!
