PrimaLoft, maker of advanced material technology, announced a partnership with Parley for the Oceans, on October 21. The partnership will use plastic waste from beaches, islands and coastal areas to make insulation products.

This is the first agreement of its kind to use recycled plastic waste in the textile industry in conjunction with Parley For the Oceans™. PrimaLoft has set numerous sustainability goals through their Relentlessly Responsible™ program. In June, 2018, the company committed to using 50% recycled content in 90% of products by 2020, according to a company press release. This latest partnership is another part of hitting that goal.

Parley for the Oceans is a network from creative industries, governments, and environmental groups collaborate to raise awareness for the oceans. The company has worked with American Express and Anheuser Busch InBev. PrimaLoft will Support Parley for the Oceans in cleanup projects as well.

Plastic in the oceans is a growing problem. According to the United Nations, 8 million tons of plastic gets into the oceans each year. In the ocean, it turns into microplastics and can be deadly to marine life. This partnership helps remove waste from the oceans and beaches.

Speaking about the company’s partnership with Parley for the Oceans, PrimaLoft President and CEO Mike Joyce said, “This collaboration with Parley is a perfect match. We both have the same goals: reducing the plastic Pollution on our planet, especially in the oceans. Avoiding the production of new fossil oil-based materials wherever possible is also a top priority. After the launch of PrimaLoft® Bio™ and proving that our fiber is ready to be utilized in a circular economy, this is another important part of our sustainable efforts.”
