H&M has partnered with singer Billie Eilish to create a line of sustainable fashion. The line will follow Eilish’s signature baggy fashion sense and will lean heavily on the color green, according to Refinery29.
Eilish is known for her environmental activism, from sending messages on climate change on Instagram to using refillable water bottles at shows. Emily Bjorkheim, H&M’s Head of Design Divided said of the partnership in a press release, “Billie Eilish is obviously an inspiring artist, but also someone a lot of people around the world admire for her personal style and empowering way of expressing her values. We want to enable her fans to step into her world and feel empowered to freely express their style as well.”
While H&M publishes sustainability guidelines for products, only some of Eilish’s fit the bill and are made from recycled materials. According to Mic.com, a rib-knit hat was made from 100% Perspex acrylic, which is recycled and a t-shirt dress is made from renewable and biodegradable cotton. H&M guidelines mandate that petroleum-based textiles are recycled.
Eilish talked about the sustainability of her upcoming tour, “We’re actually bringing someone from Reverb, this company that basically specialises in the best and most healthy and green ways to do everything. So there’s no plastic straws allowed, the fans are going to bring their own water bottles, there’s going to be recycle cans everywhere, because it’s like, if something’s recyclable, it doesn’t matter unless there’s a recycle bin.”
