This Utah turkey farmer owns one of the largest operations in the nation and decided to team up with these investigators to send nine turneys to animal sanctuaries.

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, this is literally a life-saving act for these nine fortunate turkeys who will now live out their lives peacefully.

The partnership came to be when the Direct Action Everywhere co-founder made an unlikely friendship with the Mormon farmer. they provided the facility staff with food and holiday gifts in a gesture of goodwill. In return, the farmer released nine lucky turkeys.

Six activists that are affiliated with Direct Action Everywhere are currently facing felony charges and prison time for removing a sick bird from a farm. Instead of continuing to fight, the two sides came together so that everyone walked away happy.

In an email to One Green Planet Direct Action Everywhere co-founder, Wayne Hsiung said, “There are so many scary things happening in the world around us. The least we can do is to treat one another with kindness and understanding – especially during the holiday season. From activists to farmers and everywhere in between, ordinary people want animals and our environment to be protected, and they’re willing to fight for it.”

It’s heartbreaking to think about all of the turkeys that have been abused and slaughtered for the upcoming holidays. However, this story provides some respite and hope. For these nine turkeys, this was a life-changing act of holiday compassion.
