Recently, Animals Asia rescued its 650th bear! A moon bear cub, which is at risk of extinction was confiscated from illegal wildlife traffickers thanks to the Vietnam team.

The Uong Bi police force in Vietnam found this cub, named Yên (meaning peace) in a small birdcage, with little room to move around. Having been poached from the wild, Yên had experienced a long past of mistreatment, and seemed to be scared and afraid.

Once Yên was in the care and safety of the team at Animals Asia, they took turns keeping him company. They also placed a huge teddy bear next to him so he wouldn’t feel so alone. This rescue marks an important milestone in the road towards ending bear bile farming in Vietnam!

Since Yên was stolen by animal poachers at a young age, he didn’t have his mother to teach him the essential survival skills that he needed. Luckily, the Animal Asia team came to the rescue to provide Yên with the love and care he so desperately needed. With their help, he can live out the rest of his natural life (up to around 30 years) as a happy and healthy moon bear cub!
