Boji, a street dog in Istanbul, has become a regular sight on Istanbul transportation. He travels up to 20 miles on a normal weekday.
Istanbul municipality officials started to notice the dog taking their public transport and microchipped him so that they could track his movements. He has become a common sight on all kinds of public transportation in Istanbul, even occasionally taking seafaring transport.
Aylin Erol, from Metro Istanbul, said, “We noticed a dog using our metros and trains, and he knows where to go. He knows where to get out. It’s like he has a purpose.”
Officials say that Boji seems to follow all of the public transportation rules and even has his favorite methods of getting around.
He brings joy into the lives of all of his fellow travelers, as people take photos of him and always try to sit next to his seat. He even has his own Instagram account that has more than 50,000 followers!
Erol said, “You take the train and, suddenly, you see Boji. And look at him. He lies, just like this. You just smile and catch the moment, really. This is what Boji evokes for Istanbulites. He also reminds us that we can still enjoy Istanbul as we rush about.”
Boji’s presence seems to bring joy all around him and makes the long transportation times seem to fly by.
