One of the ways we can help and lend our voices to good causes is by signing petitions. Such petitions are sent to people in powerful positions that can make a change, especially when they see just how many people stand behind the cause. We can demand change, justice, and stop tragedies by speaking up and doing our part.

There are horrifying things happening around the world every week like extinction, hunting, exploitation, and cruelty. If you are looking for a way to help animals, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, which include telling Japan to stop the slaughter of whales, stopping Peru’s dolphin slaughter, saving wild horses, and demanding justice for abused pets!

Recently, on July 1, 2019, Japan pulled out of the International Whaling Commission so that they can have illegal whale massacres. For six months, they plan to kill 383 whales for “research,” but it is suspected that it’s a ruse to sell whale meat. They plan to collect 2,000 metric tons of whale meat. One of the three whale species they will be slaughtering include the sei whale, which is an endangered species. Sign this petition to tell Japan to stop their whale massacre!

2. Stop Peru’s Dolphin Slaughter!

Although hunting dolphins is illegal in Peru, due to a lack of enforcement, an estimated 15,000 dolphins are killed off the coast of Peru. Fishers pull them onto boats, stab them with harpoons and knives, and chop them up for bait. 3. Ask Trader Joe’s to Stop Selling Products With Palm Oil!

Every year, 50,000 square miles of tropical forests are cleared to produce palm oil, which is commonly used in all kinds of products from beauty to food. The deforestation it requires has led to orangutans losing 55 percent of their natural habitat in the last 20 years. Their population has decreased by 50 percent over the last 60 years. Trader Joe’s is a leader in the food industry. Many people shop there and a change in their policy can inspire other grocers to do the same. Australia uses shark nets to keep sharks from reaching beachgoers, but the nets are killing marine life! The marine animals near Australia’s coast are already dealing with warming water and the bleaching of coral reefs, and these nets are killing them more. These nets don’t even work as intended, 65 percent of shark bites occur at netted beaches! There are also other methods for preventing shark attacks, such as drone technology and buoys that emit sound. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has a cruel plan to control the population of wild horses in The Warm Springs Herd Management Area. They plan to round up the horses with helicopters and force the mares to go through an invasive and dangerous procedure. They will make the mares undergo ovariectomies through colpotomy, which means the mare’s ovaries will be pulled out while they’re still conscious. This is incredible inhumane, abusive, and cruel. A man was jealous that his girlfriend was giving her cat, a two-year-old Ragdoll named Hibala too much attention. He decided to cruelly abuse the cat. He threw Hibala down a seven-story garbage chute. The poor cat suffered “a fractured tail, cuts exposing the bone in the tail, missing fur and severe inflammation.” The man also refused to get the cat medical attention. Thankfully, he will no longer have access to Hibala or his owner, but his punishment does not fit the crime. He will only have to pay a small fine and do community service. 7. Ask Mexico to Ban Cruel Festivals Where Bulls are Slaughtered for Locals to Drink Their Blood

In Mochitlan, Mexico, a cruel traditional festival consists of cruelly slaughtering bulls in front of a crowd. They slash the bull’s arteries and collect the warm blood so that the surrounding people can take sips of it. They do this in the name of Santa Ana, but the Pope has declared his stance against animal cruelty and the Vatican even told the town to cancel this festival. Still, they continue. 8. Protect Italian Brown Bear Nicknamed Houdini

A brown bear in Italy is being nicknamed Houdini because he is an “escape genius.” He came too close to people so he was captured, but managed to escape three electric fences and a four foot barrier. They are worried that he can become too accustomed to human food and possible put the community in danger. So they have sadly ordered his death. He should not have to die. Also, he is one of just 50 of his kind (Alpine Brown Bear) in the area. Sign this petition if you want Italian authorities not to kill him!

9. Tell Police Department to Take Responsibility for Family Dog Shot in Head by Cop

A sweet, friendly family dog named Remington happily greeted a police officer and was shot in the head. There was no reason for the cop to do such a cruel thing. Luckily, Remington survived but he has a bullet stuck in his head and the police department refuses to pay for the dog’s therapy or medical bills. The cop hasn’t even faced any consequences. Sign this petition if you agree that the very least the police department can do is pay for Remington’s medical bills!

10. Justice for Dog Slashed With a Machete and Buried Alive!

On the Oahu island in Hawaii, a passerby called authorities when he caught a man burying a dog alive. The abuser fled and the dog, Leiahola, was luckily rescued, but she suffered terrible injuries. She was missing 90 percent of her fur, was bleeding from most of her body, and her paw looked like it was slashed with a machete. After doing all this to her, the abuser also attempted to bury her alive. Sign this petition to demand that authorities take this horrible case of animal abuse seriously and find the person responsible!
