It’s horrible to hear about animal abuse cases or read the ways humans are endangering many species. Fortunately, there are things we can do to speak for them. One of the ways we can help and lend our voices to good causes is by signing petitions. Such petitions are sent to people in powerful positions that can make a change, especially when they see just how many people stand behind the cause. We can demand change, justice, and stop tragedies by speaking up and doing our part.
There are horrifying things happening around the world every week like extinction, hunting, exploitation, and cruelty. If you are looking for a way to help animals, here are 10 petitions you should sign this week, including stopping the culling of mountain goats, ending the capture of marine life, and demanding justice for abused dogs.
We want to thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world and giving a voice to the voiceless.
1. Stop the Culling of Mountain Goats in U.S. National Parks
38 mountain goats were massacred at Grand Teton National Park through a government program run by the National Park Service. They were murdered with the use of aerial snipers and military-style executions. Supposedly, they’re trying to protect the bighorn sheep so that the two animals don’t compete over the same food, but really it’s suspected it’s for trophy hunters who want to be able to kill bighorn sheep and take home their big horns, not the little horns of mountain goats. Sign this petition to demand that the National Park Service publicly commit to never undertaking this kind of vicious execution of mountain goats again!
2. Ban Fur Trapping in the UK
A fox that was caught in a snare trap, a notoriously inhumane method of wildlife capture, is seen lying near a road. His captor beats him repeatedly with a wooden bat. His sloppy and brutal attempts leave the fox alive, so the trapper drags the poor animal to the side of the road. There, he uses his boot and the hard concrete to slowly crush the fox to death. The fox was then taken to be skinned and its fur sold for £15, or about $18. Sign this petition to demand that parliament pass a law banning all fur trapping in the UK!
3. Demand that Korean Airlines Stop Shipping Live Horses to Slaughter
Approximately 7000 horses are transported by air from Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg (Canada) to Japan every year. No food or water is provided during the grueling journey to another continent. During one year alone, six horses died during transport, three perished as a result of a landing accident, and one horse was found upside down and dead in his crate. The law is ignored. Sign this petition demanding that Korean Airlines stop this!
4. Justice for K9 Dog Abused by Cop
A police officer from Hammond, Illinois was caught on camera lifting his dog in the air with its leash, choking it, as well as whipping it, to get a ball out of its mouth. NBC Chicago reported: “The officer, who was placed on administrative leave after the video went public, will receive additional training to make sure the incident isn’t repeated.” Sign this petition asking the Hammond, Illinois Police Department to take the correct action and fire him!
5. Justice for Dog Beaten to Death by Abuser
Justina Robinson beat an 11-month-old service dog named Izzy to death with a hammer. She lied and pretended it was a burglary until she confessed. Someone like Justina Robinson doesn’t deserve to ever be around animals again. Sign this petition asking for legislation to stop animal abusers like Justina from ever owning animals again!
6. Stop the Wildlife Trade
Source: Stop the Wildlife Trade
Every year billions of animals are inhumanely captured and killed to provide for your entertainment, and to make products for you to buy here and around the world. It’s called the international wildlife trade, and you can help stop it by avoiding products and experiences that come from these abused animals. Sign this petition to stand against the wildlife trade!
7. Fire Cop Who Ordered Man to Cut Off His Dog’s Head
A sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to Joe Nate Goodwin’s home after a neighbor called to report a dog bite involving Big Boy. While on the scene, Big Boy allegedly lunged at the deputy, who shot and killed him on the spot. Then investigator James Hollis ordered Goodwin to cut off Big Boy’s head to bring to the health department. Video footage of the encounter shows Hollis threatening to arrest Goodwin if he does not comply. Sign this petition to make sure the investigator is held accountable; tell Crawford County Sheriff Lewis S. Walker tor fire James Hollis today!
8. Demand Prison Time for Poachers Who Killed Over 100 Animals in Washington With Dogs and Left them to Rot
Several Washington residents are responsible for illegally slaughtering more than 100 black bears, cougars, bobcats, deer and elk in southwestern Washington state and northwestern Oregon, with many of the animals hunted with dogs and then left to rot. The group killed at least 20 black bears in Washington alone, frequently leaving the animals to rot in the woods. Sign this petition to tell prosecutors, the judge and legislators that an example needs to be established to finally set a precedence that this kind of behavior is not acceptable. Also, tougher laws need to be created to deter this sickening behavior.
9. Free Tilly and Stop the Capture of Marine Life
Despite what the famous orca whale shows advertise about the wellbeing and comfort/happiness of the whales, it is plain to see that their ecological needs are not only not met. They need more space than they are given and in the wild their territories are thousands of miles long. Captivity leads to stress, discomfort and injuries. They should be set free. Sign this petition if you agree!
10. Free Elephants Forced to Swim for Audiences
At the Khao Kheow Open Zoo, elephants are forced to perform water shows for onlooking crowds day in and day out. That is anything but natural. One unlucky elephant is made to prance around a tank while bobbing her head above and below the surface. Then she plunges to the bottom and does a few awkward tricks before coming back up for air, all while mounted by her trainer. Sign this petition and demand that Chon Buri officials shut down this zoo and hand over their elephants to a sanctuary.
