For most of us, pets are a part of our family. In New York, many cats live in bodegas, the corner stores that populate the city. Stores like this sell everyday items and snacks, and it’s not uncommon to see a cat or two hanging around these stores. These precious cats are called “bodega cats” and for many bodega owners, are just as a part of their family as a cat found in a domestic household.
Lucy is a two-month old bodega cat, and lives with her best friend Jonathan, a 10-year-old boy with autism. The two are inseparable, but recently, Luna was cat-napped from Ismael Gourmet Deli on 238th Street in the Bronx. Luckily, when she went missing, her humans did everything in their power to get her back. They contacted the police and shared the surveillance video of the incident. The 29-year-old man responsible for stealing Luna has been charged with petty larceny.
On Thursday, the two were reunited and Jonathan couldn’t be happier. His parents say that upon Lucy’s return, he played with her and read her a book. The police officers also stopped by with a welcome home gift for Luna. Check out the video below for the moment caught on camera.
Reuniting animals with their humans is always a touching moment. A reunion is a reminder that animals feel just at home with us, as we do with them. Each animal deserves a home, and to be loved and cared for in that home. If this reunion touched your heart, check out this reunion between a squirrel and its best friend and this cat that miraculously found its way home!
